Skeeter, our sweet dog is about medium height, medium weight,
and medium snout. He is the perfect
inside dog because he’s just small enough to cuddle with you on a cold, wintry
night. But big enough to scare any so-called bad guys away. When he was introduced to Jacee-Kay for the
first time her heart just melted and she fell in love with little
Skeetsman. It was the first time
Jacee-Kay had a dog to play with, and Skeeter’s life changed. He started playing dress up, tea party and
tiaras, you know the works for a three year old princess. He also started gaining lots of unwanted
weight. Completely of course because he would just beg and beg for Little Miss
Jacee to feed him her unwanted vegetables.
Before we realized this act he had nearly gained 10 pounds!
When Blakelynne entered the mix, things weren’t much
different for Blakelynne than they were for Jacee-Kay. In fact Skeeter was so worried everytime she made a
peep, that he literally would come and search for me as if to tell me “The Baby
is Crying, DOOO SOMETHING!” He would get
so worked up. He would sleep right
beside the bassinet and would sniff her every so often to “check on things”.
He’s a great guard dog. I’ve never had a better dog
before. I’ve never been a dog person
before! Skeeter changed me for the better!
Well yes, the story gets better.
Last night as Doug and I, had just laid our head onto our
pillows, I found myself drifting fast to sleep. Our little Blakey has a sixth sense about the
fact that mommy and daddy have gone to bed.
I can imagine her thinking to herself, “They just went to sleep, so now
I can sneak into their bed without anyone ever noticing me.”
She is normally successful in this endeavor, and ends up
spending the rest of the evening snuggled in between us.
However, this particular night she started her journey just
a little too early. We had turned
all the lights off in the house and forgot to leave little night lights
on. Our home is split level so
Blakelynne and Jacee-Kay’s room are way on the other side of the house, and
mine and Doug’s room opposite side. So
it’s a journey for an 18 month old to make, without any lights, and with trying
to be sneaky!!
So there she goes. On
her journey she sneaks out of bed and around the corner of the hallway, only to
realize she can’t see anything. Pitch
Black. I imagine.
Doug pops his head up and says to me, “Did you hear that?”
It was the tip toe of Blakey feet.
I whisper back, “No, but I’m so exhausted, I wouldn’t have
anyway.”
And then we hear Skeeter jump off the couch.
We could hear the pitter patter of small feet going back
into their bedroom. Skeetie jumping off
the couch had scared her. A few moments
later we hear Skeeter take off running down the girl’s hallway around the
corner in the living room, and then flying into our bedroom at full speed.
You wanna know who was grabbing a hold for dear life? Yes- Blakelynne.
He went into her room and guided her into our
room because he knew she was scared and frightened and didn’t want to cry out
for anyone (once again because she’s sneaky!).
Now That is a good dog.
